Fumiyo Kouno (born 1968) is a Japanese manga artist from Hiroshima. She made her debut in 1995 with "Machikado Hana Dayori." Her "Yūnagi no Machi, Sakura no Kuni," which connects the lives of people in Hiroshima ten years after the atomic bombing with those of a later generation of an affected family, received the Grand Prize in the Manga Division of the Japan Media Arts Festival and the New Creator Prize of the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. Her best-known work, "Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni," follows Suzu, a young woman who marries into a family in the naval port of Kure during the Second World War, depicting how shortages, air raids, and the deaths of people close to her transform the routines of domestic life.
