Yoshinori Konno (born 1969) is a scholar of innovation management and business strategy. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1992 and worked at a regional bank before returning to graduate study. He earned his doctorate in economics at the University of Tokyo in 2003 and joined Hosei University that year, becoming a professor in its Faculty of Business Administration in 2009. His empirical research on automobile manufacturers and parts suppliers has examined transaction networks, collaborative research and development, and the relationships between firms’ customer and product scope and their performance. With Ayako Takai, he wrote the Japanese-language “Core Text Innovation Management” (2010), which explained the characteristics and processes of innovation through research and development, product architecture, new product development, interfirm relationships, and business models. Its revised edition (2024) expanded the treatment of open innovation, platform businesses, ecosystems, and core technology strategy. His Japanese-language monograph “Hakaiteki Innovation no Process: PC-98 Teikoku no Koryu to Suibo” (2026) examined the rise and decline of NEC’s PC-98 in the Japanese personal computer market. It connected two dimensions of change: the modularization of technology and shifts in dominant platforms, and changes in relationships with customers and markets. Following firms’ responses to competitors over time, the book analyzed how these technological and market processes shaped the course of competition.
