ラフカディオ・ハーン（Lafcadio Hearn、1850–1904）は、ギリシャ生まれの作家、ジャーナリスト、随筆家。ギリシャのレフカダ島で生まれ、アイルランドで育った後、アメリカで新聞記者として活動し、1890年に来日した。島根県松江で英語教師となり、小泉セツと結婚して日本に帰化、「小泉八雲（こいずみ やくも）」と名乗った。その後、熊本、神戸を経て東京帝国大学などで英文学を教える傍ら、日本の文化や宗教、風俗、怪談を海外に紹介する数多くの著作を執筆した。日本文化を西洋に伝えた先駆者として国際的に高く評価され、代表作『日本の面影』（原題：Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan）、『怪談』（原題：Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things）、『日本―ひとつの解釈』（原題：Japan: An Attempt at Interpretation）は、現在も世界中で読み継がれている。
Lafcadio Hearn (1850–1904), also known in Japan as Yakumo Koizumi, was a Greek-born writer, journalist, essayist, and interpreter of Japanese culture. Born on the Greek island of Lefkada and raised in Ireland, he worked as a journalist in the United States before moving to Japan in 1890. After settling in Matsue, he married Setsu Koizumi, became a naturalized Japanese citizen, and adopted the name Yakumo Koizumi. Hearn later taught English literature at institutions including the Imperial University of Tokyo while writing extensively about Japanese culture, religion, folklore, and ghost stories for Western audiences. He is widely regarded as one of the first writers to introduce Japan to the English-speaking world. His best-known works include Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan, Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things, and Japan: An Attempt at Interpretation, all of which remain classics of cross-cultural literature.
