Misa Koyama (born 1994) is a Japanese journalist from Osaka. After graduating from Doshisha University, she joined the Mainichi Shimbun in 2017 and was assigned to its Hiroshima bureau, where she reported on atomic bomb survivors and nuclear-related lawsuits. Beginning in 2019, she interviewed nearly one hundred survivors and supporters affected by the radioactive “black rain” that fell after the bombing of Hiroshima. She became an independent journalist in 2023 and continues to investigate the lasting effects of nuclear exposure, including the experiences of second-generation survivors and communities near the former Soviet nuclear test site at Semipalatinsk. Her representative work, “Kuroi Ame Sosho,” documents the struggle of black-rain survivors for official recognition and examines the administrative boundaries that excluded them from state assistance. The book received the 66th Japan Congress of Journalists Award.
