Haruhito Kochi (born 1970) is a Japanese historian specializing in ancient Japanese history and the international relations of East Asia. He is Professor of Economics at Kanto Gakuin University, where his research focuses on the formation of the ancient Japanese state, the imperial institution, and diplomatic relations in East Asia. His best-known book, "The Five Kings of Wa: Royal Succession and Fifth-Century East Asia," examines the historical identity of the Five Kings of Wa and the political landscape of fifth-century East Asia through Chinese historical records and Japanese archaeological and textual evidence.
