Shiho Kosaka is a Japanese screenwriter affiliated with Monogatari Lab, a scriptwriting team led by film director Norihiro Koizumi. Her work includes scripts for television drama. Introducing children to global warming and ecological relationships, the Japanese-language picture book “Achichichi Chikyu to Daiji na Yakusoku! Niko to Saku no Daiboken” features a story by Kosaka and Monogatari Lab, illustrations by Osamu Sakai, and scientific supervision by the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History. A carbon dioxide character who blames itself for global warming travels around the Earth with a mysterious companion. Their adventure explores connections among carbon dioxide, plants, and other living things. By linking environmental explanations with a character’s discovery of its own role, the book brings scientific learning together with questions of belonging and self-acceptance.
