Takafumi Kondo (born 1963) is a Japanese translator of British and American literature and books on sport, health, and management. Born in Shizuoka Prefecture, he graduated from Hitotsubashi University’s Faculty of Social Sciences. He translated Jonathan Safran Foer’s “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” in which a bereaved boy’s search and a family’s memories are conveyed through narrative, photographs, and typography. His translation of Christopher McDougall’s “Born to Run” follows runners and communities in Mexico while examining human endurance and the experience of running. In Mike Spino’s “Beyond Jogging: The Innerspaces of Running,” he translated an exploration of bodily sensation and the relationship between mind and movement that extends beyond speed and competitive results.
