ゴア・ヴィダル（Gore Vidal、1925–2012）は、アメリカの作家、評論家。小説、歴史小説、エッセイ、戯曲など幅広い分野で活躍し、鋭い政治・社会評論でも知られる20世紀アメリカを代表する知識人の一人である。アメリカの歴史や民主主義、権力、文化をテーマに数多くの作品を発表し、歯に衣着せぬ発言と卓越した文体で大きな影響を与えた。代表作 *United States: Essays 1952–1992* は、40年にわたる評論を収めた集大成であり、アメリカの政治、文学、歴史、文化を鋭く論じた作品として高く評価され、1993年の全米図書賞（ノンフィクション部門）を受賞した。

Gore Vidal (1925–2012) was an American novelist, essayist, and public intellectual. One of the most influential literary figures of the twentieth century, he wrote extensively on American history, politics, literature, and culture, earning a reputation for his incisive wit and fearless social criticism. Alongside his acclaimed novels, he produced a remarkable body of essays that shaped public debate for decades. His best-known nonfiction work, *United States: Essays 1952–1992*, collects four decades of essays on politics, history, and literature. The volume won the 1993 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
