Colum McCann (1965–) is an Irish novelist born in Dublin and based in New York. After working as a journalist, he moved to the United States. “Let the Great World Spin,” which connects the lives of New Yorkers on the day Philippe Petit walked between the towers of the World Trade Center in 1974, won the 2009 National Book Award for Fiction and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. “Apeirogon,” based on the true story of an Israeli father and a Palestinian father whose daughters were killed in the conflict, uses 1,001 sections to examine history, violence, memory, and reconciliation. Through multiple perspectives, McCann links individual lives shaped by migration, war, and loss to broader historical events.
