Colin Joyce (born 1970) is a British journalist from Romford, east London. He graduated from the University of Oxford, where he studied ancient and modern history. After arriving in Japan in 1992, he worked as a high school English teacher, joined Newsweek Japan, and served as Tokyo correspondent for The Daily Telegraph before becoming a freelance journalist. “How to Japan: A Tokyo Correspondent’s Take” draws on roughly fourteen years of living in Japan, using experiences such as navigating swimming-pool rules, social etiquette, and the Japanese language to explore everyday life with humor. In “Now How to Japan: Fresh Discoveries, Further Reflections,” he revisits the country after living elsewhere, reconsidering its working culture, regional traditions, and social relationships. His writing makes cultural differences tangible through the misunderstandings and discoveries of daily life.
