略歴（Biography）

川越宗一（かわごえそういち、1978–）日本の小説家。歴史学への深い関心を背景に、日本史の転換期に生きた人々を題材とした歴史小説を執筆している。史料を丹念に読み解きながら、歴史の陰に埋もれた人物や出来事を新たな視点で描く作風で知られる。2018年、『天地に燦たり』で松本清張賞を受賞してデビューし、2019年には『熱源』で第162回直木賞を受賞した。同作は、樺太や北海道を舞台に、アイヌ民族やポーランド人亡命者など、近代史の周縁に生きた人々の交流を描き、多様な視点から近代日本の姿を浮かび上がらせた。

Sōichi Kawagoe (1978–) is a Japanese novelist whose historical fiction focuses on people living through pivotal moments in Japanese history. Drawing on extensive historical research, he brings overlooked figures and forgotten episodes to life from fresh perspectives. He made his literary debut after winning the Matsumoto Seichō Prize in 2018 for "Tenchi ni Santari" ("Shining Across Heaven and Earth"). In 2020, he received the 162nd Naoki Prize for "Netsugen" ("Heat Source"), a novel set in Sakhalin and Hokkaido that follows Ainu people, Polish exiles, and others living on the margins of modern history, offering a richly layered portrait of cultural encounter and historical change.
