Hiroki Kashiragi is a Japanese literary guide, editor, translator, and essayist. Widely recognized as one of Japan's leading interpreters of Franz Kafka, he has edited and translated works including The Despair Expert's Guide to Kafka, The Definitive Kafka Short Stories, and Kafka Fragments. After developing ulcerative colitis at the age of twenty and enduring years of illness, Kashiragi found inspiration in Kafka's writings, an experience that has profoundly shaped his own work. Through his translations, essays, and literary commentary, he introduces classic literature to contemporary readers while exploring themes of illness, resilience, communication, and the meaning of literature in everyday life.
