Kazuo Ishiguro (born 1954) is a British novelist born in Nagasaki, Japan. Since moving to the United Kingdom as a child, he has written acclaimed novels that explore memory, loss, identity, and the complexities of human dignity through a restrained and emotionally powerful prose style. His best-known novel, *The Remains of the Day*, follows an English butler reflecting on a lifetime of loyalty, regret, and missed opportunities. The novel won the 1989 Booker Prize and established Ishiguro as one of the leading novelists of his generation. In 2017, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for novels that reveal "the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world," cementing his place as one of the foremost writers in contemporary literature.
