Karl Ove Knausgaard (born 1968) is a Norwegian novelist and essayist from Oslo. His 1998 debut became the first first novel to win the Norwegian Critics Prize for Literature. He gained international recognition with “My Struggle,” a six-volume autobiographical cycle that examines his childhood, his father’s death, marriage, parenthood, and the daily work of writing in unusually extensive detail. “The School of Night” follows an ambitious young Norwegian photographer in 1980s London whose Faustian pursuit of artistic greatness leads him toward fame and destruction. Martin Aitken’s English translation was longlisted for the 2026 National Book Award for Translated Literature.
