カール・マルクス（Karl Marx、1818–1883） ドイツの哲学者、経済学者、歴史学者、革命思想家。近代社会を歴史唯物論と資本主義分析の視点から体系的に考察し、社会科学に計り知れない影響を与えた。ジャーナリストとして活動した後、ロンドンへ亡命し、フリードリヒ・エンゲルスとの協力のもとで資本主義経済の構造や階級社会の成り立ちを研究した。その思想は経済学、政治学、歴史学、社会学をはじめ多くの分野に影響を及ぼし、20世紀以降の世界史を理解するうえでも欠かせない存在となっている。代表作『資本論』（原題: "Das Kapital"）は、資本主義の仕組みや価値、労働、利潤の形成を分析した古典であり、経済思想史における最も重要な著作の一つとされる。

**Karl Marx** (1818–1883) was a German philosopher, economist, historian, and revolutionary thinker whose analysis of capitalism profoundly shaped modern social science. After working as a journalist, he spent much of his life in exile in London, where he collaborated with Friedrich Engels on his theories of historical materialism and political economy.
