Shigeo Kawashima is a Japanese scholar of social informatics and information ethics. He graduated from Keio University’s Faculty of Policy Management and completed his doctoral studies in interdisciplinary information studies at the University of Tokyo. He is a professor in the School of Cultural and Creative Studies at Aoyama Gakuin University, where he researches the ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence, robotics, cyborg technologies, and social media. His principal work, “Seisei AI Shakai: Muchitsujo na Sozosei kara Rinriteki Sozosei e” (“Generative AI Society: From Unregulated Creativity to Ethical Creativity”), examines discriminatory automated decisions, unauthorized use of copyrighted works, the spread of disinformation, environmental costs, and the responsibilities of the people and institutions that deploy AI.
