Kawakita Hidetaka (1950–) is a Japanese financial economist and professor emeritus at Kyoto University. After graduating from Kyoto University’s Faculty of Economics, he joined Nippon Life Insurance, where he held senior positions including general manager of securities investment and director of financial planning. He later moved into academia and studied securities markets, asset management, and corporate finance. In “‘Shijo’ dewa naku ‘Kigyo’ o Kau Kabushiki Toshi,” Kawakita argues that equity investment should involve selecting companies capable of creating long-term value rather than merely following movements in the market as a whole. “Kobetsukabu no Kyokasho” explains how individual investors can evaluate corporate prospects and management quality and participate in economic growth through long-term share ownership instead of short-term trading. In “Mikan no Kin’yu Kaikaku,” co-written with Shioiri Atsushi, he traces economist Ikeo Kazuhito’s involvement in financial policy and examines Japan’s unfinished reforms in banking, financial regulation, and corporate governance.
