甲斐 理恵子（KAI Rieko）- 翻訳家

甲斐 理恵子（かい りえこ）は、歴史、地理、自然、文化などのノンフィクションと、物語の翻訳を手がける翻訳家。旅行代理店などでの勤務を経て翻訳の道に入り、実務翻訳を学んだのち、出版翻訳にも仕事を広げた。ミッチ・アルボムの『時の番人』では、時間を数えることから始まる人間の苦悩を描く物語を訳している。ティム・マーシャルの『恐怖の地政学』と『宇宙地政学と覇権戦争』では、地形や宇宙空間をめぐる各国の利害を読み解く著作を翻訳。また、『世界植物探検の歴史』など、知識を図版とともに伝える書籍も手がける。『世界史ビジュアル地図帳』では共訳に参加し、世界の歴史的な出来事を地図から捉える書籍を日本語で紹介した。

Rieko Kai is a Japanese translator of nonfiction on history, geography, nature, and culture, as well as fiction. After working in travel-related businesses, she studied practical translation and moved into book translation. Her work includes Mitch Albom’s “The Time Keeper,” a story that examines human anxieties about time. She has translated Tim Marshall’s books on geography and geopolitics, including his discussion of competition in space. Kai also works on illustrated reference books, such as a history of plant exploration. As a contributor to the Japanese translation of a visual world-history atlas, she helped present historical events through maps and geographical explanations.
