Carmen Reinhart (born 1955) is an American economist and professor at the Harvard Kennedy School. She has also served as Chief Economist of the World Bank and held senior positions at the International Monetary Fund. Her research focuses on international finance, macroeconomics, sovereign debt, and financial crises. Through her historical analyses of debt defaults and banking crises, she has shaped global discussions on economic policy and financial stability. Her best-known book, "This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly," examines 800 years of financial crises and demonstrates how the belief that "this time is different" has repeatedly contributed to economic collapse.
