カレブ・ガイル（Caleb Gayle）は、アメリカのジャーナリスト、歴史ノンフィクション作家。人種とアイデンティティ、黒人史と先住民史が交差する領域を中心に、忘れられてきたアメリカ史を掘り起こしている。ノースイースタン大学でジャーナリズムを教えるほか、『ニューヨーク・タイムズ・マガジン』の寄稿者としても活動する。代表作『Black Moses: A Saga of Ambition and the Fight for a Black State』（未邦訳）は、19世紀末のアメリカ西部に黒人主体の州を築こうとした政治家エドワード・マッケイブの生涯を通して、自由と自治、人種をめぐるアメリカ民主主義の可能性と限界を描いた作品である。
Caleb Gayle is an American journalist and historian whose work explores race, identity, and overlooked chapters of American history. A professor of journalism at Northeastern University and a contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine, he is known for bringing Black and Indigenous histories into conversation through extensive archival research and narrative reporting. His book Black Moses: A Saga of Ambition and the Fight for a Black State recounts the life of Edward McCabe, a nineteenth-century politician who sought to create a Black-led state in the American West, illuminating the possibilities and limits of freedom, self-government, and American democracy.
