Tatsushi Fujihara (born 1976) is a Japanese historian and professor at Kyoto University’s Institute for Research in Humanities. Born in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, and raised in Shimane Prefecture, he specializes in agricultural history and the intellectual history of food. His research encompasses agricultural policy and technology in Nazi Germany, famine, school meals, and the relationship between food and war. In Bunkai no Tetsugaku: Fuhai to Hakko o Meguru Shiko, Fujihara examines decomposition by microorganisms, fungi, and insects, challenging a social vision centered exclusively on production and consumption and tracing how death and waste become part of renewed cycles of life. The book received the Suntory Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities, and his Seirui no Shiso: Taieki o Megutte won the Kobayashi Hideo Prize in 2026.
