Hisham Matar（ヒシャーム・マタル、1970年生まれ）は、リビア系イギリス人の小説家、エッセイスト、回想録作家。ニューヨークでリビア人の両親のもとに生まれ、幼少期をトリポリとカイロで過ごした後、イギリスへ移住した。祖国からの亡命、独裁政治、喪失、家族、記憶、アイデンティティを主要なテーマとする作品で国際的に高く評価されている。2016年に刊行した回想録『帰還――父を探し求めて』（原題：The Return）では、リビアのカダフィ政権下で消息を絶った父をめぐる旅を描き、2017年のピューリッツァー賞（伝記・自伝部門）を受賞した。静謐で詩情あふれる文体と深い人間洞察を通じて、亡命と帰属、記憶と希望を描く現代文学を代表する作家の一人として広く知られている。
Hisham Matar (born 1970) is a British-Libyan novelist, essayist, and memoirist. Born in New York City to Libyan parents, he spent his childhood in Tripoli and Cairo before settling in the United Kingdom. His writing explores themes of exile, dictatorship, family, memory, identity, and the enduring search for belonging. His memoir The Return, which recounts his search for his father, a Libyan dissident who disappeared under the Gaddafi regime, won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography. Celebrated for his lyrical prose and profound emotional insight, Matar has established himself as one of the leading literary voices writing about exile, loss, and the relationship between personal memory and political history.
