Terumi Hirata is a translator and interpreter working on international economics and social issues. She spent her childhood through junior high school in London, studied international economic and competition law at Keio University, and earned an MBA at Doshisha University. She began translating and teaching English while a university student and has interpreted for companies and international conferences. With Kanichiro Hirata, she translated Nicholas Shaxson’s The Finance Curse, which examines the economic and social costs of an oversized financial sector. They also translated Carissa Véliz’s Privacy Is Power, concerning the collection and sale of personal data, the distribution of power, and the place of privacy in democracy.
