Yuki Akari (1971–) is a Japanese writer and editor specializing in typography, design, printing, and craftsmanship. After graduating from Musashi University, she worked at a printing company during Japan’s transition from phototypesetting to desktop publishing and later served as the editor-in-chief of a business magazine. She became a freelance writer and editor in 2000. Her books include “Moji o Tsukuru: Kyunin no Shotai Dezaina,” “Shotai ga Umareru,” and the “Moji Moji Tanteidan” series. In “Katsuji no Tane o Tsukutta Hitobito,” she reconstructs the lives and work of the craftsmen who carved the original character forms used to produce metal type. Her research documents the history of Japanese typography through the designers, engravers, printers, and craftspeople who created it.
