Yutaka Yoshida (born 1954) is a Japanese historian and professor emeritus at Hitotsubashi University who specializes in modern Japanese military and political history. He also serves as director of the Center of the Tokyo Raids and War Damage. His research examines the Japanese military and the Asia-Pacific War not only from the perspective of political and military leaders but also through the experiences of ordinary soldiers. His "Nihongun Heishi: Ajia-Taiheiyō Sensō no Genjitsu" received the Special Prize of the Asia-Pacific Award and the 2019 Shinsho Taisho. Focusing particularly on the final stages of the war, the book uses historical evidence to examine starvation, deaths at sea, disease, suicide, kamikaze operations, and severe shortages of food and equipment, revealing the conditions Japanese soldiers endured beyond deaths caused directly by combat.
