略歴(Biography)

渡邉雅子(わたなべ・まさこ、1960年生まれ)は、日本の社会学者、教育学者。名古屋大学大学院教育発達科学研究科教授。Columbia University大学院博士課程修了、Ph.D.(社会学)。東京大学社会科学研究所、国際日本文化研究センターを経て現職。専門は知識社会学、比較教育学、比較文化論で、各国の作文教育や思考表現の比較を通じて、「論理的思考」が文化や社会によって異なることを実証的に研究している。長年にわたる研究成果をまとめた『論理的思考とは何か』で第34回山本七平賞を受賞した。著書に『納得の構造』『「論理的思考」の社会的構築』『「論理的思考」の文化的基盤』『共感の論理』『論理的思考とは何か』などがある。 Wikipedia ↗

Masako Watanabe (born 1960) is a Japanese sociologist and Professor at the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, Nagoya University. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Columbia University and previously held research positions at the Institute of Social Science, The University of Tokyo and the International Research Center for Japanese Studies. Specializing in the sociology of knowledge, comparative education, and comparative culture, she is internationally recognized for her research demonstrating that "logical thinking" is not universal but is shaped by cultural and educational traditions. Through comparative studies of writing instruction and reasoning across different countries, she has proposed a new framework for understanding multiple styles of logic. Her book "What Is Logical Thinking?" received the 34th Yamamoto Shichihei Prize. Her other notable books include "The Structure of Persuasion," "The Social Construction of Logical Thinking," "The Cultural Foundations of Logical Thinking," and "The Logic of Empathy."
