渡邊 真里（わたなべ まり）は、自然科学、歴史、社会や視覚資料を扱う英語書籍の翻訳家。法政大学文学部を卒業し、ソフトウェア開発会社と翻訳会社に勤務した後、独立した。ジェイ・ヴァン・バヴェルとドミニク・J・パッカーの『私たちは同調する』（原題 “The Power of Us”）では、集団への帰属意識が判断や行動に与える影響を、社会心理学の研究から検討する本を訳した。『生きものたちのスゴ技図鑑 何しゃべってるの？編』では、動物の声、動き、においなどによる意思伝達を、子どもに向けて図解する本を翻訳した。デイヴィッド・ベインブリッジの『ビジュアル 驚異の動物解剖全史』（原題 “Skeleton: The Art of Animal Anatomy”）では、解剖図や動物画を通して、身体の理解と描写の技術がどのように変化したかをたどった。科学的な観察と、図像を通して知識を伝える歴史を扱う内容だった。
Mari Watanabe translates English-language books on science, history, society, and visual culture. She graduated from Hosei University’s Faculty of Letters and worked for a software-development company and a translation company before becoming independent. In Jay Van Bavel and Dominic J. Packer’s “The Power of Us,” she translated research on how group identities shape judgment and behavior. Her translation of the animal-communication volume in the Japanese series “Ikimonotachi no Sugowaza Zukan” explains communication through sounds, movements, and scents for younger readers. She also translated David Bainbridge’s illustrated history “Skeleton: The Art of Animal Anatomy,” published in Japanese as “驚異の動物解剖全史.” Through anatomical illustrations and animal images, it examines changes in observation, bodily knowledge, and methods of depiction.
