William Shawcross (born 1946) is a British journalist whose work covers international conflict, diplomacy, humanitarian aid, and the media. In “Sideshow: Kissinger, Nixon, and the Destruction of Cambodia,” he draws on government documents and extensive interviews to examine the Nixon administration’s military intervention in Cambodia and its destructive consequences. “The Quality of Mercy: Cambodia, Holocaust and Modern Conscience” investigates international relief efforts following Khmer Rouge rule, exploring the tensions between humanitarian assistance and political interests. In “Murdoch,” he traces Rupert Murdoch’s expansion into newspapers, publishing, television, and film, incorporating interviews with Murdoch himself. Across these books, Shawcross examines how decisions made by governments, corporations, and aid organizations affect individual lives and societies.
