Wil Haygood is an American journalist and biographer. He worked as a reporter and correspondent for The Boston Globe and The Washington Post and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He now teaches journalism and nonfiction at his alma mater, Miami University, as a distinguished scholar-in-residence. In “The War Within a War: The Black Struggle in Vietnam and at Home,” Haygood draws on the experiences of soldiers, doctors, nurses, journalists, and activists to examine the racism Black Americans confronted both in Vietnam and at home, and the war’s connection to the civil rights movement. The book was longlisted for the 2026 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
