W・G・ゼーバルト（W. G. Sebald、1944–2001）は、ドイツ生まれの作家、文学研究者。1970年代からイギリスで暮らし、長年にわたりイースト・アングリア大学で教鞭を執った。小説、随筆、紀行、写真を融合させた独自の文体で、記憶、喪失、亡命、戦争、ホロコーストの影響といったテーマを静謐かつ詩的に描き、20世紀末から21世紀初頭の文学に大きな影響を与えた。代表作『アウステルリッツ』では、自らの出自を知らずに育った主人公が、ヨーロッパの歴史と個人の記憶をたどる旅を通して、戦争と強制移住が残した深い傷跡を描いている。
W. G. Sebald (1944–2001) was a German-born writer and literary scholar whose innovative works blurred the boundaries between fiction, memoir, history, travel writing, and photography. After settling in the United Kingdom, he taught for many years at the University of East Anglia while developing a distinctive literary style that explored memory, loss, exile, war, and the enduring legacy of the Holocaust. His best-known novel, *Austerlitz*, follows a man uncovering the hidden story of his childhood and family, weaving together personal memory and European history in a meditation on displacement, identity, and historical trauma. Sebald is widely regarded as one of the most influential literary voices of the late twentieth century.
