Seiko Ueda is a Japanese translator of children’s and general-interest books on psychology, rights, and diversity. Born in Tokyo, she studied sociology at Keio University and moved to the United States in 1979. She later studied photography and worked on publishing and exhibition projects. Her translations of Dawn Huebner’s workbooks introduce children to cognitive behavioral approaches for managing worries and anger. In Michael Hall’s “Red: A Crayon’s Story,” she translated a picture book about a blue crayon with a red label, exploring expectations and identity. Ueda also translates books on resilience and LGBTQ experiences, helping younger readers reflect on emotions and relationships.
