Atsushi Udagawa (born 1977) is a Japanese media scholar and Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Musashi University. After graduating from Kyoto University, he worked at IBM Japan and Rakuten in web development, digital marketing, and UX design before earning a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Information Studies from the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on media theory, media literacy, and digital platforms, with particular attention to how search engines, social media, and AI shape the information environment. His book *Who Creates the Black Box? Questioning Algorithms and AI* examines the mechanisms and societal impact of algorithmic systems while advocating a renewed approach to media literacy in the age of AI.
