Kaito Tohata (born 1983) is a Japanese clinical psychologist, certified public psychologist, and psychoanalyst. He is the director of Shirokane Takanawa Counseling Room and writes extensively on psychology, psychoanalysis, and mental health in contemporary society. Known for making complex psychological ideas accessible to a broad audience, he draws on his clinical experience to explore how people cope with emotional suffering and find support. His best-known work, "What Is Counseling?: What It Means to Change" (winner of the 2026 Shinsho Taisho), presents a comprehensive view of counseling theory and practice while examining what it means for people to change and how care can support that process.
