She served as the 22nd United States Poet Laureate from 2017 to 2019 and is widely regarded as one of the leading voices in contemporary American poetry. A graduate of Harvard University and Columbia University, she currently teaches at Harvard. Her writing explores race, history, family, memory, faith, and the cosmos with lyrical precision and emotional depth. She won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for *Life on Mars*.
