A longtime foreign affairs columnist for *The New York Times*, he has written extensively on globalization, the Middle East, technology, and environmental issues. Known for making complex global trends accessible to a broad audience, Friedman has become one of the most influential commentators on international affairs and is a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner. His best-known book, *The Lexus and the Olive Tree*, examines the forces of globalization and their impact on nations, businesses, and individuals. The book won the 1989 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
