トム・ジョーンズ(Thom Jones、1945年–2016年)は、アメリカの短編小説家。アマチュア・ボクサーや海兵隊員を経験し、広告のコピーライター、用務員として働いた後、40代で作品を発表し始めた。デビュー短編集『拳闘士の休息』(The Pugilist at Rest)は、戦争や病、暴力に直面する人びとを描き、1993年の全米図書賞最終候補となった。表題作はO・ヘンリー賞を受賞。続く『コールド・スナップ』(Cold Snap)でも、心身に傷を負った人物たちの怒りや孤独を、勢いのある語り口で描いている。
Thom Jones (1945–2016) was an American short story writer. A former amateur boxer and Marine, he worked as a copywriter and a janitor before his fiction began appearing in magazines in his forties. His debut collection, “The Pugilist at Rest,” portrays people confronting war, illness, and violence. It was a finalist for the 1993 National Book Award, and its title story won an O. Henry Award. In his second collection, “Cold Snap,” Jones continued to write about damaged and volatile characters, giving their anger and loneliness a forceful voice. His fiction appeared in The New Yorker, Harper’s, and Esquire.
