Hoshi Tominaga (born 1955) is a Japanese translator specializing in science and nonfiction. After graduating from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, Kyoto University, she worked as a librarian at the National Diet Library, as a librarian at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura (Italian Cultural Institute) in Tokyo, and as a teacher before becoming a full-time translator. Widely regarded as one of Japan's leading translators of popular science, mathematics, and physics, she is known for producing clear, accurate, and highly readable translations while faithfully conveying the logic and style of the original works. Her notable translations include Prime Obsession, Symmetry, The Order of Time, Reality Is Not What It Seems, Helgoland, and There Are Places in the World Where Kindness Is More Important Than Rules.
