Dominic Frisby is a British financial writer, comedian, and voice actor whose writing focuses on gold, money, and taxation. He has written about gold and investment for MoneyWeek for many years and has contributed to The Guardian and The Independent. Alongside his financial newsletter, The Flying Frisby, he has performed satirical songs and shows about economics. He also hosted the BBC Radio 4 financial comedy programmes More Money than Sense and Damned Lies. His work connecting economics with live performance led from the Edinburgh Fringe one-man show Let’s Talk About Tax to Daylight Robbery: How Tax Shaped Our Past and Will Change Our Future (2019), published in Japanese as Zeikin no Sekaishi in 2021. The book traced taxation from the ancient world through its involvement in religion, war, and revolution. Examples such as taxes on windows and beards accompanied its examination of how tax systems could respond to technological and social change. Drawing on his longstanding writing about gold, The Secret History of Gold: Myth, Money, Politics and Power (2025) broadened the historical scope from the metal’s origins to mythology, conquest, empire, and modern finance. Its Japanese translation, Gold: Kin no Sekaishi, appeared in 2026. Treating gold as both an ornament and a store of wealth, as well as a foundation of currency and political power, the book followed the connections between the metal and human ambition, exploration, and war. It also considered Chinese and Russian mining and holdings, and gold’s continuing role in a digital economy.
