千葉 聡（CHIBA Satoshi）- 進化生物学者、東北大学東北アジア研究センター教授

千葉聡（ちば・さとし、1960年生まれ）は、日本の進化生物学者、生態学者。東北大学名誉教授。東京大学大学院理学系研究科博士課程修了、博士（理学）。静岡大学助手・助教授、東北大学大学院生命科学研究科教授などを経て、進化生物学と生態学の研究を牽引してきた。カタツムリの進化や生物多様性の研究で国際的に知られ、フィールドワークとゲノム解析を組み合わせて、生物が多様化する仕組みを解明している。また、一般向けの科学書でも高い評価を受け、『歌うカタツムリ──進化とらせんの物語』で毎日出版文化賞（自然科学部門）を受賞した。著書に『進化のからくり』『招かれた天敵』『ダーウィンの呪い』などがある。

Satoshi Chiba (born 1960) is a Japanese evolutionary biologist and ecologist, and Professor Emeritus at Tohoku University. He earned his Ph.D. in Science from the University of Tokyo and held academic positions at Shizuoka University and Tohoku University, where he became one of Japan's leading scholars in evolutionary biology and ecology. His research focuses on the evolution of land snails, biodiversity, and the mechanisms of speciation, combining fieldwork with genomic analysis to explore how biological diversity arises. In addition to his academic research, he is widely recognized for making evolutionary biology accessible to general readers. His book "The Singing Snail: Evolution and the Story of the Spiral" received the Mainichi Publishing Culture Award in the Natural Sciences category. His other notable books include "The Mechanisms of Evolution," "Invited Enemies," and "Darwin's Curse."
