ティモシー・B・タイソンは、アメリカの歴史家。デューク大学ドキュメンタリー研究センターの上級研究員などを務め、アメリカ南部における人種、宗教、公民権運動の歴史を研究してきた。『エメット・ティルの血』（The Blood of Emmett Till）は、1955年にミシシッピ州で14歳の黒人少年エメット・ティルが殺害された事件を、裁判記録や報道、関係者への取材をもとに再検証した歴史書である。加害者が白人だけの陪審によって無罪とされた裁判、息子の遺体を公開して人種差別と暴力の実態を社会に訴えた母メイミー・ティル＝モブリーの行動、事件が公民権運動を動かした過程を描いている。同書は2017年の全米図書賞ノンフィクション部門ロングリストに選ばれ、2018年のロバート・F・ケネディ図書賞を受賞した。
Timothy B. Tyson is an American historian whose work examines race, religion, and the civil rights movement in the American South. He has served as a senior research scholar at Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies. In "The Blood of Emmett Till," Tyson reexamines the 1955 murder of Emmett Till, a fourteen-year-old Black boy, in Mississippi, drawing on court records, contemporary reporting, and interviews. The book recounts the acquittal of Till’s killers by an all-white jury, his mother Mamie Till-Mobley’s decision to expose the brutality inflicted on her son, and the case’s role in galvanizing the civil rights movement. It was longlisted for the 2017 National Book Award for Nonfiction and won the 2018 Robert F. Kennedy Book Award.
