David Constantine（デイヴィッド・コンスタンティン、1944–） イギリスの詩人、小説家、短編作家、翻訳家。オックスフォード大学ワダム・カレッジで現代語を学び、博士号取得後、ダラム大学とオックスフォード大学でドイツ文学を教えた。ヘルダーリン、ゲーテ、ブレヒト、クライストなどドイツ文学の優れた翻訳者として知られるとともに、文芸誌「Modern Poetry in Translation」の共同編集者を務め、英語圏における翻訳文学の発展にも大きく貢献した。詩集や短編集で数々の文学賞を受賞し、2020年にはイギリス王室のクイーンズ・ゴールド・メダル・フォー・ポエトリーを授与されている。代表作『Tea at the Midland and Other Stories』（未邦訳）は、人間関係や老い、記憶、喪失を静かな筆致で描いた短編集である。表題作はBBC National Short Story Awardを受賞し、本書は2013年のフランク・オコナー国際短編賞を受賞した。また、収録作「In Another Country」は映画『さざなみ（45 Years）』の原作として世界的に知られている。
David Constantine (1944–) is a British poet, novelist, short story writer, and translator. After studying Modern Languages at Wadham College, Oxford, he completed a doctorate on Friedrich Hölderlin and taught German literature at Durham University and the University of Oxford. Widely recognized for his translations of Hölderlin, Goethe, Brecht, and Kleist, he also served as co-editor of the influential journal "Modern Poetry in Translation," helping introduce European literature to English-language readers. His poetry, fiction, and translations have earned numerous honors, including the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2020. His best-known work, "Tea at the Midland and Other Stories," is a collection of short fiction exploring memory, aging, loss, and human relationships with remarkable emotional precision. The title story won the BBC National Short Story Award, and the collection received the 2013 Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award. Another story from the collection, "In Another Country," was adapted into the acclaimed film "45 Years."
