デヴィッド・バーン（David Byrne、1952–）は、スコットランド生まれのアメリカのミュージシャン、作家、ヴィジュアル・アーティスト。1975年にロックバンド「トーキング・ヘッズ」を結成し、ボーカル、ギター、主要な作詞・作曲を担った。ニューウェーブやアートロックにファンク、アフリカ音楽などを取り入れた独創的な音楽で、現代のポピュラー音楽に大きな影響を与えた。バンド解散後もソロ活動を続け、舞台、映画、写真、インスタレーション、出版など幅広い分野で作品を発表している。『音楽のしくみ』では、自身の経験を交えながら、音楽が生み出される環境や技術、産業、社会との関係を多角的に考察している。
David Byrne (1952–) is a Scottish-born American musician, writer, and visual artist. In 1975, he co-founded Talking Heads, serving as the band’s lead vocalist, guitarist, and principal songwriter. By combining new wave and art rock with elements of funk, African music, and other international influences, the group exerted a lasting influence on contemporary popular music. Since the band’s dissolution, Byrne has pursued a wide-ranging solo career encompassing music, theater, film, photography, installation art, and publishing. In How Music Works, he draws on his own experience to examine how music is shaped by performance spaces, technology, commerce, and society.
