D. V. Bishop (born 1966) is the pen name of David Bishop, a New Zealand-born novelist, screenwriter, and editor based in the United Kingdom. After beginning his career in journalism, he edited the British comics Judge Dredd Megazine and 2000 AD, wrote television and radio drama for the BBC, and taught creative writing. Under the name D. V. Bishop, he writes the Cesare Aldo historical mystery series, set in sixteenth-century Florence. “A Divine Fury” follows Aldo, a night officer with secrets of his own, as he investigates a series of ritualistic murders in Florence in 1539. The novel brings together exorcism, the persecution of homosexuality, political surveillance, and an intelligence struggle between Florence and Venice, depicting a city in which religious and political power reach deeply into private life.
