デイモン・ガルガット（Damon Galgut、1963–） 南アフリカの小説家、劇作家。17歳で長編小説を発表して以来、アパルトヘイト後の南アフリカ社会や人間の孤独、喪失を繊細な筆致で描く作品を発表してきた。『The Good Doctor』と『In a Strange Room』でブッカー賞の最終候補に選ばれ、2021年には『約束』（原題 "The Promise"）でブッカー賞を受賞した。代表作『約束』は、一つの約束が果たされないまま数十年を過ごす一家の姿を通して、アパルトヘイト後の南アフリカ社会が抱える不正義や世代間の断絶を描いている。
Damon Galgut (born 1963) is a South African novelist and playwright. Since publishing his first novel at the age of seventeen, he has written fiction that explores post-apartheid South Africa, as well as themes of isolation, loss, and moral responsibility. After being shortlisted for the Booker Prize with "The Good Doctor" and "In a Strange Room," he won the 2021 Booker Prize for "The Promise." His best-known novel, "The Promise," follows a family over several decades as an unfulfilled promise exposes the enduring injustices and generational divisions of post-apartheid South Africa.
