Susie Boyt is a British novelist and essayist who studied English literature at the University of Oxford. Her fiction explores family relationships, grief, and both the sustaining power and the limits of love, combining close psychological observation with understated humor. The daughter of painter Lucian Freud and great-granddaughter of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, she has also written columns on art and everyday life for the Financial Times. Her seventh novel, “Loved and Missed,” follows Ruth, a teacher who raises her granddaughter Lily when her daughter Eleanor is overwhelmed by drug addiction, setting the pleasures of caring for a growing child beside the pain of loving a daughter whom she cannot rescue.
