Susan Faludi is a journalist investigating gender and American society. A Pulitzer Prize winner, she examined claims that advances in women's rights had made women unhappy in Backlash, testing them against reporting, statistics, popular culture and politics. The book won the National Book Critics Circle Award. Stiffed followed men confronting changes in industry, work and social roles, exploring the gap between expectations of masculinity and lived experience. In the Darkroom investigated her relationship with her father following a gender transition. It connected a Jewish past in Hungary, family memory, photography and self-presentation with wider questions of identity. The memoir won the Kirkus Prize for Nonfiction.
