Studs Terkel（スタッズ・ターケル、1912–2008）は、アメリカの作家、ジャーナリスト、口述歴史家、ラジオ司会者。本名はLouis Terkel。シカゴ大学で学び、俳優やラジオ・テレビ司会者として活動した後、一般市民へのインタビューを通してアメリカ社会を描く「オーラル・ヒストリー」の第一人者となった。労働者、退役軍人、移民、芸術家など、多様な人々の声を記録した作品は、20世紀アメリカを理解するための貴重な証言として高く評価されている。1984年刊行の『The Good War: An Oral History of World War Two』は、第二次世界大戦を兵士や市民など数百人の証言から描いた画期的な作品として、1985年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門を受賞した。著書に『Working』『Hard Times』『The Good War』『Race』などがある。

Studs Terkel (1912–2008), born Louis Terkel, was an American author, journalist, oral historian, and radio broadcaster. After studying at the University of Chicago, he worked as an actor and radio and television host before becoming one of the pioneers of modern oral history. Through thousands of interviews with ordinary Americans—workers, veterans, immigrants, artists, and others—he created an unparalleled portrait of twentieth-century American life. His landmark book The Good War: An Oral History of World War Two presents World War II through the voices of those who experienced it and won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. His other notable works include Working, Hard Times, and Race, all celebrated for giving voice to the everyday experiences of ordinary people.
