Scott Galloway is a marketing scholar, entrepreneur and author specializing in brand strategy and digital marketing. He earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MBA at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. His ventures included the brand consultancy Prophet, the online gift retailer RedEnvelope and L2, a business intelligence firm that assessed brands’ digital capabilities. At New York University’s Stern School of Business, he taught brand strategy and digital marketing to MBA students. In The Four: The Hidden DNA of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google, translated into Japanese as the four GAFA 四騎士が創り変えた世界, he examined the competitive advantages of four dominant technology companies through their business models and their relationships with consumer desires, considering their effects on markets and society. He co-hosted Pivot with Kara Swisher and discussed business, technology and the economy through his No Mercy / No Malice newsletter and other media. The Algebra of Wealth: A Simple Formula for Financial Security, published in Japanese as 一生「お金」を吸い寄せる 富の方程式, drew on his experience in entrepreneurship and teaching to examine career choices, restraint in spending, time and diversification as components of financial security. In Notes on Being a Man, published in 2025, he revisited his childhood, his parents’ divorce, his working life and his experience raising two sons. The book connected these personal experiences with questions of male isolation, adulthood and fatherhood in contemporary society.
