略歴（Biography）
角 敦子（すみ あつこ）は、日本の翻訳家。津田塾大学英文科卒業。政治、経済、歴史、軍事、テクノロジー、自然科学、美術、動物など幅広い分野のノンフィクションを中心に数多くの翻訳を手がけている。とりわけ軍事・安全保障分野の翻訳に定評がある一方、歴史、思想、文化、スポーツ、図鑑など多彩なジャンルを精力的に紹介し、海外の知見を日本の読者へ伝えてきた。訳文は正確さと読みやすさを兼ね備え、専門性の高い内容をわかりやすく伝える翻訳者として高く評価されている。訳書に『リベラリズムはなぜ失敗したのか』『［ヴィジュアル版］貨幣の歴史』『図説 狙撃手百科』『銃と戦闘の歴史図鑑』『世界の無人航空機図鑑』『スポーツの歴史』『世界を変えた100の小説』などがある。
Atsuko Sumi is a Japanese translator specializing in nonfiction. A graduate of the English Department at Tsuda University, she has translated a wide range of works on politics, economics, history, military affairs, technology, natural science, art, and culture. Although particularly well known for her translations of books on military history and security, her work spans diverse fields, including philosophy, sports, reference works, and illustrated histories. Recognized for producing accurate and highly readable translations, she has introduced numerous influential international nonfiction titles to Japanese readers. Her notable translations include Why Liberalism Failed, The History of Money (Illustrated Edition), The Sniper at War: From the American Civil War to the Present Day, The Illustrated History of Guns and Warfare, The World's Unmanned Aircraft, The History of Sport, and 100 Novels That Changed the World.
