Fuyumi Soryo (born 1959) is a Japanese manga artist from Oita Prefecture. She made her professional debut in 1982 and first established her career in girls’ manga before expanding into seinen manga in 2001. Her series “Boyfriend” received the 33rd Shogakukan Manga Award. Her representative work, “Cesare: Hakai no Sōzōsha,” is a historical manga set at the University of Pisa in 1491 and centered on the young Cesare Borgia, who would later become a prominent military and political leader. Developed through extensive historical research and supervised by Dante scholar Motoaki Hara, the series depicts the papacy, the Medici family, and rival Spanish and Italian student factions through the experiences of Cesare and the ordinary student Angelo. It reconstructs the political, religious, and educational institutions of Renaissance Italy while tracing the forces that shaped Cesare’s ambitions.
